What this is
Culture Tracker is a browser-based tool for recording and managing live cultures. Your data is saved locally in your browser (on this device). There is no account, no cloud, and no automatic sync.
Data and syncing
- Local only: everything stays on your device until you export.
- Transfer between devices: use Export on your phone or PC, then Import the file on the other device. This copies your data, but the two devices do not stay in sync.
- QR workflow: if you plan to scan labels often, we recommend managing cultures on mobile for smoother scanning.
- Backups: export regularly for safekeeping, ideally each time you make updates. Export produces a JSON file, which is a simple text format for structured data.
Add and edit cultures
- Create a culture with name, species or custom species, salinity, start date and time, volume in liters, harvest cycle in days, and optional notes.
- Toggle Track harvest cycle per culture. Turn it off for long running cultures (for example many copepods) so they do not appear on the calendar.
- Edit any field later. Culture age is calculated automatically.
Summary cards
- Total cultures
- Total volume
- Ready to harvest
- Crashes
- Total yield (from resets marked as harvested)
Calendar
Shows upcoming harvests for tracked cultures. The card for today also includes anything overdue. Click a day to see the due list and open a culture.
View screen
See details, move with Prev and Next, and use Save, Reset, Duplicate, or Delete. The Back button always returns to the main screen.
Reset with reason
- When resetting, choose Harvested or Crashed.
- If harvested, enter the yield. Reason and yield are recorded in history and rolled up into the summary stats.
History
Each culture keeps a timeline of create, edit, duplicate, and reset events. You can clear a culture's history if needed.
Batch actions
Select multiple cultures on the main list to Reset, Export, or Delete in one go.
QR label tools
Open link, View QR in a modal, Print label, or Download PNG. Each culture's QR encodes a direct link so scanning jumps straight to that culture.
Shop links
Open configured products for species and strains to purchase supplies quickly.
Import and Export
- Export: downloads a JSON file of your data. Keep these files as backups.
- Import: loads a JSON file and lets you confirm adds or overwrites. Use this to move data between phone and PC.
